Pedagogikos Logos: A new journal of pedagogical reflection is now available on the eJournals platform

The innovative environment of the digital service of ePublishing developed by the National Documentation Centre (EKT) was chosen by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly for the electronic publication of the scientific journal "Pedagogikos Logos- Journal for the Humanities and Education".

In its collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly, EKT provides the necessary infrastructure for the electronic publication, hosting and distribution of the journal, while the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly is responsible for the scientific supervision of the content of each scientific publication.

EKT's ePublishing service, which consists of three platforms for managing, hosting and promoting scientific journals (eJournals), conference proceedings (eProceedings) and monographs (eBooks), covers all stages of the publishing process and is intended for both academics in folklore institutions and cultural societies.

To date, 59 content providers have used the technological possibilities offered by the service and have digitally published 53 scientific journals, 9 conference proceedings and 22 monographs. Now, visitors to EKT's eJournals platform can read the latest issue of the 'Pedagogikos Logos' journal which was published with a special tribute to Giftedness.

The "Pedagogikos Logos", as the 'Four-Month Edition of Pedagogical Reflection" was founded in 1995 by Professor Ioannis E. Theodoropoulos, a prominent figure in Philosophical Pedagogy in the German-speaking world.

A characterisation of the 'Pedagogikos Logos', which is even now valid, is given in its first issue 1/1995: 'The Pedagogikos Logos' is an attempt to interpret self-evident or incomprehensible events of educational reality. It is an open-minded and non-aligned journal, which hosts every view on childhood, detects meanings and puts them into practice. It is a step forward in tracing the phenomenon of education and above all, man as a conductor. However, it is not content to simply approach pedagogy scientifically as it endeavours to redefine the human entity through the pedagogical perspective.

Since 2021, the publishing body of the scientific journal 'Pedagogikos Logos' has been the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly, based in Larissa. The connection of the journal with this specific Department has led to the widening of the journal's concerns and focus on the dialogue between the Human Sciences and the Life Sciences.

The "Pedagogikos Logos" attempts to be an interdisciplinary research presence in the wider field of Human Sciences, with reference to their dialogue with the Life Sciences

in terms of human education and training. At the same time, the subject matter of the journal extends to approaches of philosophical, theological, psychological and sociological orientation either directly or indirectly related to man's education.

The education of gifted children is one of the most controversial and demanding modern educational issues. Some critics of gifted education tend to view it as an anti-democratic and elitist attempt to 'spotlight the most capable' and as a dangerous attempt to achieve higher ratings in school trials at the expense of the depth and breadth of knowledge and education. Nevertheless, many of the gifted education programme and services are treated with particular interest by the majority of education systems.

In the 'About Giftedness' special issue of 'Pedagogikos Logos' an effort has been made to highlight specialised and modern research findings, which meet the need of teachers for a fuller understanding of the nature of giftedness and to inform them about a series of effective teaching strategies for gifted students.

In the twenty-first century, various social and psychological issues related to giftedness have become the focus of scientific interest. These issues, some of which are analysed in detail in the chapters of the special issue, concern the self-perception and emotional intelligence of gifted students, the role of genetic and biological factors in shaping intelligence, the causes of underperformance, the cultural diversity of giftedness, the professional counselling of gifted students, the international educational practices of gifted education and the strategies of managing the social interaction of gifted students.

The scientific editor of the issue is Alexandros-Stamatios Antoniou, Associate Professor of the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education, University of Athens and Director of the Postgraduate Programme-'Special Education and Training'.
