HIRMEOS (High Integration of Research Monographs in the European Open Science infrastructure) is a Horizon 2020 funded project which aims at improving five important publishing platforms for open access monographs in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) and enhance their technical capacities and services, rendering their technologies and content interoperable and embedding them fully in the European Open Science Cloud.
HIRMEOS focuses on monographs as a significant mode of scholarly communication in the SSH. The five platforms participating in the project -OpenEdition Books, OAPEN Library, EKT Open Book Press, Ubiquity Press και Gottingen University Press- will be enriched with tools that will enable identification, authentication and interoperability, enrich information and entity extraction, enable annotation and the gathering of usage and alternative metric data. HIRMEOS will also enhance the technical capacities of DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books), a most significant indexing service for open access monographs globally. Project partners will also develop shared minimum standards for the publication of monographs that will in turn enable their integration into the European Open Science Cloud.
Project partners comprise the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) as project coordinator, the National Documentation Centre (EKT), OAPEN, DGIA, Gottingen University, Ubiquity Press, Open Book Pub, DARIAH ERIC and the University of Turin.
EKT in particular will improve the interoperability of its technical infrastructure for open access monographs with DOI, ORCId, FundREf information, entities recognition services, certification and annotation services and metrics service (altmetrics).
